Vecchi's Under-19s unlucky to draw after conceding an own goal in the 93rd minute

FLORENCE - At the Gino Bozzi in Florence, Stefano Vecchi’s Primavera side looked to respond after unfortunately going out of the UEFA Youth League but they were a denied a win following a 93rd minute own goal.

It was Inter who were proactive in the first 15 minutes but the first chance was for the home side as Sottil forced a good save from Pissardo. In the 23rd minute, the deadlock was broken as Colidio played in Odgaard who was brought down by Cerofolini and it was a penalty kick! Zaniolo stepped up and looked to put his mistake in Manchester behind him and he did so to fire the Nerazzurri ahead.

The Inter number ten was dangerous again in the 28th minute with a header from a Danso free kick but Cerofolini made a miraculous save. Fiorentina then equalised after an aerial duel between Hristov and Lombardoni that saw the ball fall at the feet of Gori and he made no mistake. Zaniolo went close again at the end of the half with an effort that went just wide after he was set up by Emmers. There were two chances for Colidio in the 44th minute who fired over after some good personal play and he couldn’t take advantage after Zaniolo’s pressing won the ball back.

Inter were surprised at the start of the second half as Sottil was left all alone the head in a Valencic cross. Inter struggled after and Pissardo did well to distract Diakhate. In the 63rd minute, Zaniolo showed some pace before setting up Odgaard who took a touch before firing in his 13th of the season with his left foot. Pissardo was in action again after, tipping a Diakhate shot from midfield onto the post. At the other side, Emmers and Zaniolo tried their luck from long range.

In the final 15 minutes, Vecchi brought Merola on and the forward born in 2000 went very close ten minutes from the end but his shot just missed the target. The Nerazzurri then took the lead after some interplay between Zappa and Rover with the former firing past Cerofolini. When it seemed over, Fiorentina took the lead seconds from the whistle as an unfortunate deflection by Lombardoni found its way into Pissardo’s net and Stefano Vecchi’s side were denied the joy of claiming the three points.
