SOFIA – In Bulgaria March is the month dedicated to Baba Marta, an old lady whose arrival marks the end of winter and the coming of spring. Bulgarians exchange red and white strings in this period but far more dominant during our week with Inter Campus Bulgaria were the colours black and blue.
We began our trip at the Dupnitsa orphanage, where local educators Stefan and Ventsi work with around 30 children. The kids grow up quickly but each time we go back part of us hopes we won't find the same children because it would mean they've found new families.
The next stop was Troyan, a small town in the Balkan mountains. Upon our arrival we were met by the two local coaches Vladi and Mitko and around 50 kids, as well as a further 20 youngsters from the Inter Campus centre in Banja and their coach Doncho.
Our coaches Gabriele Raspelli and Davide Lubes, who ran lots of demonstrations in all the Inter Campus centres they visited, wrapped up their stay by holding a training session at the boarding school in Vrabevo with a party for the 30 kids involved in the project.
