CERNOBBIO (Como) - José Mourinho presented his new coaching DVD today at a press conference in the town of Cernobbio near Lake Como. Football for Kids by José Mourinho, a 70-minute programme produced by Portuguese broadcasting company Yeti, was filmed in Vale do Lobo on the Algarve last spring. "When I made this programme I knew I could have been the coach of Inter, but I still didn't have my contract..." explained Mourinho.

At the start of your coaching career you worked with children. Is what you learnt still useful in certain aspects of your work?
"Yes. The problem when you start out as a coach is the dynamics of working on the pitch. I think that working with children is a beautiful experience that becomes very important for the future. I will never forget it, it was a fantastic experience I had many years ago. I think can be important for the training of a coach."

Your former players Deco, Drogba, Ricardo Carvalho feature in the contents of the DVD. Now you know the Inter squad better, would you get them to participate as well?
"I didn't choose these three, it was the producers of the DVD. I think it was a pleasure for them to do it for me and the children. They are all very good players with different roles. There could have been many others but I neeeded, a defender, a midfielder and a striker, and they did very well. Like them, the players I'm working with at Inter will remain in my heart as well. Our relationship is very good and we all know that if we want to win we all have to do it together. I really like working with the whole squad because they are first-rate perfectionists and professionals. They want to work, improve, collaborate. The squad is very united, and this is one of the reasons why I'm pleased to be at Inter."

When you arrived at Inter you said: 'I don't care if a player is sixteen or forty years old, the only thing that matters is that he is ready to play'. You had great young players at Chelsea and Porto, and now you have great young players at Inter. Do you have any special measures for them, or do you treat them in the same way as all the other players?
"It's a bit different because the necessities are different. For example, when we came back from Athens all the others had a morning to sleep but Mario Balotelli had to go to school the morning after. The situation is completely different so I think we have to find a balance for these youngsters. You have to make certain decisions. With Santon, for example, I want his debut to come in the Champions League, not for three, four or five minutes, but for ninety minutes. It would be fantastic if my team gets enough points to qualify early so he can make his debut in one of the last group matches."

What advice does Mourinho have for young players, their parents and coaches?
"Basically, this DVD isn't about coaching. This DVD can help those to watch it to train with pleasure, and give children what today's society can never give them. When I was 12 we played outside in the park because our parents were fine about letting us play there. Parents can't let their children play football in the streets any more, so we have to transform the idea of football schools of clubs, which have to be organised, and keep that spirit you had when you played in the streets."

Were you expecting such a positive start in the Champions League? Is there anything you still need to improve?
"Everything. I want to improve everything. We have won a Champions League match and we have four points in the league. I have sufficient experience not to be crazy with joy. I always want to improve our results and our game. I'm not changing my football philosophy or methodology but I need a bit more time before the team can start playing like I want. Against Roma we played 40 or 50 minutes in the way I like. Less against Sampdoria, about 30-35 minutes, and 90 minutes against Catania. I really liked the way the team played against Catania. We played very well against Panathinaikos, but we had those ten minutes in the second half when the defensive line was too far back. It wasn't easy to play with this personality away from home in our first Champions League match. I'm still not entirely happy with the level of our game, but I'm very happy with the players' strength and their mentality."

Is it true that Mourinho always protects his players, even at the risk of exposing himself to controversy?
"No, this isn't true. I don't think causes controversy and I don't run away from it, but if someone touches my team, I'm the first person to defend my team."

Before the match against Sampdoria, you said a draw would be enough. Would a draw be enough against Torino?
"No, I didn't say a draw would be enough. I said that a draw wouldn't be a drama, and I was right because it was a hard match and none of our title rivals won their first matches. The first match is always hard, especially if you're playing away from home. We want to win this match against Torino but it wouldn't be a drama if we draw, like what happened against Sampdoria. It's a match we want to win so we can continue this winning series after the victories over Catania and Panathinaikos. I'm focusing hard on improving the team and getting the team to play like I want. I'm super happy because the players are with me in this change in philosophy. I'm confident that we will go to Turin to win, but with total respect for a team who have the same points as us but whose objectives for the season are different. I've seen them play and they play good football."

Are you pleased for Adriano after this first step he has taken?
"You said it right. It's the first step. When you make lots of noise because Adriano scored a great goal, I prefer to play defensively and Adriano has a lot of work to do. A coach is pleased when a player comes on and finishes off a match, but Adriano knows I want a lot more from him than just one goal in the Champions League."

Milan play in the UEFA Cup tonight. Isn't it a bit strange not to see them in the Champions League? And what do you think of this crisis Milan and Roma are going through?
"These aren't crises. A crisis is when you haven't reached your goals at the end of the season. There are times when things don't end well, but difficult times come for everybody. It's a difficult moment for them right now but I don't think it will last for long. Why? Because the coaches are good, the players are good, and the teams have the tradition of getting positive results. The situation will change quickly."

There's the feeling that there will be many more embraces with Ibrahimovic this season?
"We will see. But with my personality and his, we know there could also be some difficult times. The important thing is that we are united, and that we both know what we have to do to reach an objective, which is the objective of everybody, of Inter. Our team works hard and those who aren't playing at the moment are responsible for the team's successes up to now. We work hard, there's great competition among the players, and this is very, very positive for me."
